Redefining trauma
When I talk about trauma, I don’t just mean emotional trauma. I mean anything that’s left a physical imprint on your system: concussion, dental braces, no matter what age, whiplash, surgery, or even a difficult birth.
Your body is incredibly intelligent. After an injury, the body creates protective patterns to keep you safe by tightening muscles, shifting posture, or bracing around sensitive areas. But if those patterns stay locked in, they can keep your nervous system “on guard,” leading to pain, fatigue, and a sense that your body just isn’t right.
The hidden problem
Concussions and physical trauma are more common than most people realise. One in five children will experience a concussion before the age of 10, usually from falls, playground accidents, or sports. Adults who’ve had whiplash, car accidents, or knocks to the head, even decades ago, often carry hidden patterns of tension that still affect them today. Left unaddressed, these patterns can impact mood, energy, balance, and posture for years to come.
How can this show up?
You don’t have to have a recent concussion for these symptoms to appear. Sometimes the root cause goes back years, even decades. People often come to see me with symptoms like:
Ongoing headaches, dizziness, or visual disturbances
Jaw pain, clenching, or teeth grinding
Neck, shoulder, or hip tension that never quite releases
Balance problems, vertigo, or a sense of disorientation
Chronic fatigue or feeling “on edge”
Emotional release during treatment (crying happy tears, laughing, deep relief) is expressed with a recollection of the traumatic event at times. It's a beautiful thing to witness; it brings me great joy.
Scans don’t tell
the full story
Traditional imaging (CT, MRI) is excellent for ruling out fractures or bleeds, but it won’t pick up subtle cranial shifts or nervous system dysregulation. That’s why so many people are told their scans are “normal” while their symptoms continue.
The skull isn’t just a protective casing; it’s a living, dynamic system. Subtle shifts in the cranial bones can affect nerves, balance, and muscle tone throughout the body. I’ve trained to feel these micro-movements, assess the whole cranial system, and gently guide it back into balance so your nervous system can reset.
Looking deeper at the root cause
So how can these traumas cause an imbalance? Here are some of the possible reasons.
Cranial nerves
Can be irritated or compressed, leading to vision changes, facial pain, sinus issues, difficulty breathing and balance.
TMJ involvement
The temporal bones connect to your jaw. Misalignment can cause clenching, grinding, or pain that radiates into the neck and shoulders, pelvis and feet. Misalignment here will cause problems down below.
Vestibular disruption
Subtle shifts in the inner ear can cause vertigo, dizziness, and a sense of being off balance. Draining the Eustachian tubes from fluid buildup and congestion aids in preventing potential infections like colds and allergies
Compensation patterns
Tension can travel through the spine, affecting posture, gait, and muscle activation.
How can I help?
In a single assessment, I look at your whole system: cranial alignment, jaw function, breathing patterns, vestibular system, and muscular compensations.
I then use gentle, precise techniques (craniosacral therapy, TMJ release, lymphatic drainage, and more) to release stored tension and restore normal movement. This often leads to a sense of deep calm, lighter movement, and a nervous system that finally feels “safe.”
The assessment and treatment happen in the same session, so we can start making changes straight away. No long waiting period, no endless weekly appointments.
A shift to
optimal wellbeing
When we release trauma and restore cranial balance, everything begins to function better. For many people, it’s a turning point, the moment where symptoms that have lingered for years finally start to shift.
- Pain eases
- Posture resets
- Balance improves
- Sleep deepens
- Energy returns
- Emotional load lifts
- Life returns to more optimal health and well-being
Hear from my patients
Posted on Peter MooreTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Robert is a magician! I actively recomend him to anyone I can. I would say I am generally fit and healthy, but usually suffer a back blow-out once or twice a year, right when I feel I am strong and what i feel is for no reason. I hobble into Roberts studio, stiff and in pain, and I leave walking upright and pain free. All without Robert ever touching my back! Robert understands the source of the problem and treats the actual cause, not the symptom. He's the only physio/chiro I've been to where I actually want to book another appointment. He's helping me solve a lifetime of unresolved shoulder/back/hip/ankle issues from countless past rugby/wakeboarding/snowboarding injuries. Resolving structural imbalances so the body works as it should. Thanks Rob!Posted on sandra fTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I cannot speak highly enough of the exceptional care I received from Robert Morrissey, a truly knowledgeable and skilled musculoskeletal therapist. As someone from a dental prosthetist and educator background, I’ve encountered many patients — and experienced myself — the complexity of TMJ-related issues. When I began treatment, I was dealing with persistent lockjaw (TMJ dysfunction) back issue, and sciatica, which were significantly affecting my quality of life. Through a combination of precise manual therapy, postural correction, and advanced breathing techniques and exercises, Robert was able to address the root causes of my issues — not just the symptoms. The approach was holistic, targeted, and incredibly effective. Today, I am pain-free and continue to integrate the techniques I learned into my daily routine for ongoing stability and wellbeing. I strongly encourage fellow dental professionals to consider referring patients with cranial and TMJ-related issues to an experienced musculoskeletal therapist like Robert. In many cases, successful treatment requires more than just dental intervention. The collaborative, interdisciplinary approach can make a significant difference in patient outcomes. I’m deeply grateful for the care I received and the long-term improvements I’ve experienced.Posted on Carina AndersonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. After years of battling chronic pain, I finally found relief thanks to Robert. Their holistic approach and personalised treatment plan have been nothing short of life-changing. From the very first session, Rob took the time to understand my condition and tailor a comprehensive program to address my specific needs. Their knowledge, professionalism, and genuine compassion set them apart from any other physiotherapist I’ve encountered. I highly recommend Rob to anyone seeking effective and lasting relief from chronic pain. [Follow up] I had to see Rob after returning to Sydney with pretty bad jaw pain, and he was able to fix me right up. The work he does on the lymph nodes is incredible and I can feel the difference within the session. I have yet to meet another practitioner with same level of care and attention!Posted on justine lafreniereTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing service. I had a big pain to my SIJ and I couldn’t walk. After two visit for my pain in SIJ , my pain disappeared !!!!! He didn’t touch my SIJ except for my jaw, neck and it was better , I could walk again and breathe easily. Thanks you Robert xxxxxPosted on christian moraledaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have seen multiple physiotherapist, Chiropractors, Acupuncturist, Osteopaths, remedial massage and so on. No one was able to resolve an issue I had with my shoulder pain. Robert fixed it in one session. I appreciate his time and energy to meticulously explain what he is doing to alleviate the symptom and more importantly how to maintain a lifestyle to support your recovery and be in a top physical state. While physio's etc gave me exercises etc that didnt work, Robert gave me insights on how to practically treat my pain by addressing my lifestyle holistically. He is a true master of his craft and I could not recommend him highly enough. Thank you Robert for being passionate with your craft to support and treat your clients.Posted on Ljiljana VisnicTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. If you need best of the best for your body definitely you will find in Happy body. All great reviews before main explained how Robert makes as happy in our body. I spent many years with very good and well known physiotherapist but Robert looking body from every angle not one spot or one area. This is Big deference. His knowledge is amazing. Extremely professional and make you very comfortable. BEST OF THE BEST ???? ????????❤️Posted on Simon MullinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I chanced upon The Happy Body Clinic while on a short stay in Manly and feel so fortunate and grateful to have done so. “We like a challenge” were the words that lured me in because no amount of MRI scans or Neurology Specialists could diagnose my condition of physical instability. Robert used his own life experience to explain his diagnosis as well as computer images and a skeleton in the suit. It all made sense and four years of searching has not provided anything close to what Robert achieved in 1 session. I will be flying from Melbourne to see him again. Thanks mate you’re changing lives.
